Originally designed by William Morris in 1874, Willow was first produced as a hand block printed wallpaper, reflecting his enduring fascination with natural forms. Willow Stripe Sage features delicately intertwined cream willow leaves, flowing upward in a graceful, rhythmic movement, upon a soft, muted sage green backdrop, creating a sense of calm and continuity.
In 1877, the design was reinterpreted as a woven silk using hand-loom jacquard techniques and produced in multiple colourways. Today, the Gallery’s collection includes Willow in several variations, celebrating its timeless elegance and versatility.
