Willow Stripe Damson is based on a design by William Morris, originally produced as a hand block printed wallpaper in 1874. The design features gracefully intertwined willow leaves, flowing upward in a rhythmic and continuous movement. Presented here in a rich palette of deep damson red and soft neutral tones, the pattern is reimagined as a refined vertical stripe, bringing a sense of structure and elegance to the design.
Willow was later developed as a woven silk in multiple colourways in 1877 using hand-loom jacquard techniques, and remains a celebrated example within the William Morris Gallery’s collection.
